The KIM team invites applicants to apply for an exciting opportunity to join our Finance Department as the Director of Finance. Under the direction of the Vice President, Finance (VP) and working closely with senior program leads, the Director of Finance is primarily responsible for day-to-day financial operations, accounting, controls, planning, developing and monitoring of all program budgets of Keewatinohk Inniniw Minoayawin Inc. (KIM). This includes direct responsibility for accounting, finance, job costing, and preparation of forecasts and financial statements.
Within the context of First Nations program funding and reporting requirements, the Director of Finance is responsible to prepare and control annual and multi-year budgets; provide strong financial management and leadership; and provide support and guidance for the development of relevant internal controls, processes and financial policies.
The Director of Finance must have extensive experience with budget preparation and control; strong management and leadership skills; knowledge of First Nations contexts (e.g., program funding, reporting requirements); and the ability to provide support and guidance for the development of relevant internal processes and guidelines. The Director of Finance will also manage and mentor other employees while maintaining an environment of continuous improvement and development.

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Recognized accounting designation (CPA, CA, CGA, CMA), post secondary degree in Commerce, Business Management or Accounting.
  • Minimum of 5 years accounting, finance and budgeting experience including budgetary preparation and control.
  • Experience and proficiency working with enterprise resource planning systems and accounting software.
  • Proficient computer skills including the use of Microsoft Office Suite, Sage 300, internet, and virtual meeting platforms.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills, the ability to set priorities, handle multiple tasks, work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong financial management and leadership skills;
  • Knowledge of First Nations contexts (e.g., program funding, reporting requirements);
  • Ability to provide support and guidance for the development of relevant internal controls, processes and financial policies.
  • Ability to speak one of the First Nations languages is desired.

  • Possess a valid class 5 driver’s license.
  • Employee must be eligible to work in Canada.
