Financial Assistant

Operations – Based in Winnipeg, MB

Keewatinohk Inniniw Minoayawin Inc. (KIM) was established to work towards a new health system that will better respond to the needs of northern First Nations people in Manitoba. KIM supports health and wellness services for 23 Sovereign First Nation communities in northern Manitoba with a focus on equitable care, addressing racism in the health care system, responsiveness to emerging needs, and filling gaps in the health care system. This is accomplished through advocacy, collaboration, and integration with First Nation communities and federal/provincial partners.

Supporting the Director of Operations, the Finance Assistant provides support and assistance to various financial operations by monitoring and processing payment requests. The Finance Assistant prepares various financial reports, reviews forms, prepares requisitions, and provides dedicated support during month end, year-end, and annual audits. As a point of contact for the Finance department, the Finance Assistant will liaise with various internal and external stakeholders and will work with accuracy and courtesy. The Finance Assistant may be required to assist operations with various administrative tasks and projects when time permits.

The ability to speak one of the northern First Nations languages is desirable. Candidates with roots to a northern First Nation community will be given preference.


The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Reviewing incoming invoices from vendors and processing cheque requisitions for accounts payable

  • Ensuring vendor payments and EFTs are processed in a timely manner

  • Supporting processing of payments, expense claims, and reimbursements

  • Entering invoices, receipts, funding information, and other financial data into NetSuite or other systems

  • Preparing financial documents for review and approval by the Financial Analyst or Director of Operations

  • Assisting with preparing documentation for audits, funder reviews, and compliance monitoring

  • Tracking expenditures against program budgets and flagging variances or issues

  • Preparing and performing monthly credit card reconciliations

  • Monitoring, answering, and processing emails in the Finance email account and directing messages accordingly

  • Preparing, editing, and proofreading correspondence, reports, and invoices

  • Managing the Finance filing system

  • Scanning and filing paperwork


The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Post-secondary certificate or diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field

  • Minimum 1–2 years of experience in financial administration, accounts payable/receivable, or office administration

  • Data entry experience with NetSuite and Payworks is considered an asset

  • Experience creating financial documents for reporting or audit purposes

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

  • Excellent organization, time management, and attention to detail abilities

  • Proficient typing and data entry skills

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work

  • Proven problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Ability to work well under pressure

  • The ability to speak one of the northern First Nations languages is desirable

  • CPA designation (completed or in progress) is considered an asset


Conditions of employment:

  • Satisfactory criminal record, vulnerable persons, and child abuse registry checks

  • Ability to travel on occasion, with appropriate notice, by air, land, and boat

  • Must be eligible to work in Canada
